While we are a relatively new company, formed in April of 2018, we have decades of experience in the construction industry. We have a wide variety of skills and equipment to provide many services, from design to project completion for your home or business.
We serve Tompkins and Schuyler Counties as well as the surrounding areas.
Birch Contracting was born when the founder decided to expand his one-man operation into a team effort to be able to tackle larger projects. He wanted a business name that everyone on the team could take equal pride in. The majestic birch tree, which symbolizes “a new beginning” according to Celtic lore, characterizes the strength and beauty of our work.

A project that we don’t take pride in isn’t a project worth doing. Our top tier quality is of major
importance to us, and we don’t compromise that. We are constantly finding new methods and materials to improve our work, including obtaining manufacturer certifications, receiving education credits from the National Association of Homebuilders, and taking government and collegiate courses.
An organized job site greatly improves overall efficiency and it conserves the materials that you pay for. It is also crucial to site safety, which is extremely important to us. Keeping our sites clean, or more accurately, preventing messes in the first place, is one of the key differences between us and other contractors. Through the use of plastic tenting and vacuumed cuts and sanding, we are able to maintain pristine work areas. Through these practices, not only are we less disruptive throughout your daily life, but your belongings and physical property are protected as well.

The Team
Bob Robinson: Since his first word, “Home”, our founder Bob Robinson has dedicated himself to the ever-evolving pursuit of designing and building the perfect house. He has worked 10 years in the trades, including 2 years of management. Degrees in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Building Science.

Stew Robinson, a.k.a. Dad: A carpenter for 35 years, with a specialty in finish carpentry, he handed down his knowledge to his son, Bob. You'll see Stew still in action from time to time on Bob's jobs.
Ruth Robinson, a.k.a Mom: Your call may be answered by Ruth while she holds down the fort when Bob is out of range. She's occasionally painter/stainer extraordinaire and clean up maven on the crew.
